Review of Straight Outta Compton (2015) by Perry W — 02 Apr 2016
As a caucasian woman born in Compton in 1943 and moved away with parents in 1953, I wanted to see how it had changed. It was neither minority, nor violent as I remembered as a child. I rented the movie to see if any of the scenery was familiar.
...not. Although not a fan of hiphop, I found myself drawn into the characters and their interaction with police and other authority figures. Must say my first encounter with police, at about the age of four in a bicycle parade in Compton, left a lasting negative impression of cops.
