Saw this on 19/12/15.
I don't know rap culture and I don't enjoy Rap that much, but still Straight outta Compton captures the mood of it's time so effectively and I was able to connect with the struggles of the black singers who had trouble with the racist police force of LA. F. Gary Grey (Law Abiding Citizen, The Negotiator) directs with finesse and actor O'shea Jackson Jr really looks like Ice Cube. It's nearly complete male stars give fine performances with Paul Giamatti being the best of the performers. However, the film is slightly not as memorable as many other films of the genre and this is mostly meant for those who know the culture and are really interested in it.
