Review of Straight A's (2013) by William M — 19 Mar 2013
I came across the trailer for this movie and was intrigued, not by the gripping storyline but by the likable cast. Two well known HBO actors and veteran indie Ryan Phillippe should have made a solid cast.
Though Ryan does have a bit of a hard time with his accent it is the storyline and the directors need for slow moving montages that keeps this film from every moving up to the forefront. I was intrigued with Paquin's and Phillipe's chemistry which played out as sexy and genuine.
Unfortunately WIlson gets lost in a separate storyline that never really feels like its connected to the plot. Kept away from the rest of the cast his talent is wasted and it is only on his reunion that we even come close to getting the full potential of this ensemble.
