Review of Storytelling (2001) by Heather M — 04 Dec 2007
Todd Solondz somehow manages to be a director that can tackle and bring humour out of any prejudice, without ever coming across as prejudice himself. It is through his stand-off unopinionated and serious exploration of this that reveals the humour and stupidity of prejudice.
I would have liked a third story just to see how Solondz would have pitched it (in light of the two stories being non-fiction and fiction - and what is more; Solondz had originally written a third story that was to feature James van Der Beek exploring his sexuality).
The performances in this are great as are the technicals. While not as good as Hapiness or Dollhouse this is a very good film and even highlights, without coming off worse itself, how good those other two films are.
