Review of Storytelling (2001) by Chad F — 24 Jul 2008
I know this would not be a 5-starrer for most people, but it is for me. Todd Solondz is one of my favorite directors and this is a masterpiece just like the rest of his films (Happiness, Welcome to the Dollhouse, Palindromes).
This movie withholds some of the most awkward, realistically disturbing moments ever captured on film. I love Solondz because he creates such true-to-life problematic characters and capitalizes on their vulnerabilities.
He drills into it and makes you feel horrible witnessing the things you do! Now that's movie magic! I can tell he sees things very similar to the way I do. He laughs in the face of the same things I do, he is annoyed by the same things I am, and he is torn by the same things I am - it shows through the movies.
I recommend this one.
