Wow - the genius thing about this film is the way it seems to be both an individual family's story and a story that is entirely relatable to anyone who's trying to piece together the mysterious inner and secret lives of long past family members.

I wasn't always entirely on board with the recreations--they occasionally took me out of the reality of the film--but I loved the overall approach to putting the pieces of the puzzle together.
