Review of Stories We Tell (2012) by Dennis S — 09 May 2013
I heard about this movie (during TIFF I think) and altough the buzz was good the way this documentory was described didn't really appeal to me. I thought I probably wouldn't see it even though generally I like documentaries.
Months later I was on an Air Canada flight to Bermuda and noticed it on the in-flight movie list. I decided to give it a few minutes to see what the fuss was about. I was absorbed right from the beginning and there was no way I was going to turn it off.
I fact I was swearing under my breathe every time a flight announcement was made and cut into my viewing. It also got to the point where I was terrified we would land before the movie ended, luckly it ended with a couple of minutes to spare.
I found the format and direction of the movie to be fresh and exciting, I was anxiously waiting for the story to unfold. I also found it deeply moving, discovering the impact these life events had on the different family members.
I would highly recommend this movie.
