Review of Stories We Tell (2012) by Calvin C — 10 Sep 2013
There is no doubt that actor/director Sarah Polley is a great filmmaker. "Away From Her" is perhaps one of her best films. This true story about Polley's mother and family is compelling enough to sit through. The choice of mixing actors and the real life people in the super 8 films is interesting. It does add something to the storytelling. However, some of the great documentaries use still pictures just as effective to tell the story. The interviews are insightful and it was interesting to see perspectives from siblings of Polley of their late mother and how they interpreted the past.
Grade: A-.
