Review of Stories We Tell (2012) by Tom B — 23 Oct 2013
The fact that Polley is able to weave such an intricate and personal narrative, without it feeling self-serving, is a testament to her talents as a filmmaker. Over an hour into the film, and she is still revealing small details about her family's history that change not only her life and the lives of the people affected irrevocably, but the audiences perception of just where exactly this story will go.
Deeply personal, profoundly emotional, and at times both uplifting and heartbreaking; Sarah Polley is a filmmaker at the height of her craft, and it is almost as if she was born to make such a film.
