Review of Stop-Loss (2008) by Alan J — 07 Oct 2008
Considering Kimberly Peirce's last film allows you to see the film in a light that might elude you should you take it at apparant face value. I've read a lot of criticism concerning the films final stance on the war.
I think the film actually does a good job at portraying the motivations and the millieu of the texas soldiers fairly accurately. My largest criticism is with the overall believability of the portrayal of post traumatic stress syndrome.
I personally didn't think these scenes were very convincing. In contrast, I felt the scenes dealing with injured soldiers were extremely well executed. Not entirely successful, but worth watching.
