Review of Stop-Loss (2008) by Earanee N — 01 Feb 2009
A decent movie about the frustrating practice of the US Military pulling its troops back into duty after they have finished. You do feel for Ryan Phillippe's character as he tries to avoid being pulled back to Iraq, and it's interesting to see his friends make their own choices regarding the war.
But the director's choice to shoot everything handycam style - just like the soldier's home videos - is not as brilliant or unique as she thinks. If this is as close to a modern Deer Hunter we can get at the movies then I'm a little disappointed, but it's still a decent movie that will keep you engaged.
