Review of Stop-Loss (2008) by Jess K — 04 Feb 2009
Kimberly Peirce directs nothing for nine years after Boys Don't Cry and returns with this? While I may agree with the message of the film I couldn't stand watching it long enough to find out what that message is.
The characters are uninteresting, unoriginal, and don't offer any reason to care. Once Sgt. King starts picking random fights, Stop Loss lost me, and I stopped watching. The movie simply has nothing new to say.
Deer Hunter, Jarhead, Full Metal Jacket and Generation Kill all convey the same theme in more visceral and effective ways.
