Review of Stop-Loss (2008) by Simon W — 12 Aug 2009
This reminded me alot of Jarhead, another anti-iraq war movie, but this was infinitely more watchable. The three leads, Ryan Phillipe, Channing Tatum, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt, really grew up in this movie.
Jospeh Gordon-Levitt was already one of my favorites ( watch Brick to see why) but it was Channing Tatum who really surprised me. There is talent there underneath all the media hype. The movie was good, although in parts a little too obvious and preachy.
I could have used more Timothy Olyphant. He played an interesting character, a superior officer from the same town, but he was used more as a plot device than a character. This isn't perfect, but it is the best anti-war movie since Blackhawk Down.
