Review of Stone (2012) by Ray H — 14 Mar 2011
This is a pretty good mystery/drama. Both, Jack (Robert DeNiro), a corrections officer; and Stone (Ed Norton), a convict; are excellent. But, the movie felt a bit like a stage play put on the screen. The best parts are when they are on the screen together; playing off one another.
But, the over-all story, did not have enough to it. Both of their characters should have been more fully explored. I thought they both remained somewhat thinly drawn. So, the interaction between them did not have enough emotional weight or substance behind it.
Lucetta (Milla Jovovich), Stones wife, is here. I thought she was adequate. She did not strike me as a seductive siren type. She is an attractive woman. But, in her role, as written, I did not think she sold her part. Maybe it was not written well enough.
So, the story unfolds, and it just sort of winds down. The ending few scenes, tried to draw the various story threads together. It ended, but not in a particularly satisfying way.
