Review of Stone (2012) by Steve N — 20 Mar 2011
"Stone" is all over the place and Director John Curran is really bad at trying to make "Stone" feel like a thriller or some religious infomercial about the fictional religion "Zukangor", Which sounds alot like the actual religion "Eckankar", I will say De Niro and Norton give very good performances. I even enjoyed just about every scene they shared together, but the plot of the film just sucked. Big time. It barely made it clear what the point of the film was, and the point it was trying to make just wasn't.......right.
"Stone" sounds like a crime/psychological thriller on paper, but it just what it is not. It is so slow moving, nothing noteworthy happens until well past forty minutes into the film. Just when the "seduction subplot" starts to pick up, suddenly the film becomes religious. The plot is all over the place, lacking in focus and clarity. It cannot decide whether it wants to be a thriller or drama. As a result, "Stone" is just so boring.
