Review of Stone (2012) by David E — 02 Jul 2011
2: This was not what I was expecting; I guess that's what you get for not watching trailers. I wasn't exactly disappointed, I just wasn't pleased. It's basically a psychological duel between De Niro, Norton, and Jovovich.
It's a testament to Norton's skill that I could never quite get a solid read on his character - even after the film had concluded - while De Niro and Jovovich were like open books. This is anything but a straightforward genre picture, but the form it takes is not necessarily an improvement over the standard genre fare.
The performances make the picture, but they aren't enough to elevate it above the mundane.
