Prisons are, among other things, institutions of learning where convicts become expert at playing the repentant victim. The movieâ(TM)s central flaw is the notion that a veteran parole officer could get entrapped by a repulsively insolent.
Prisoner, getting sucked into the convictâ(TM)s twisted life and even letting the conâ(TM)s wife entangle and seduce him on the outsided.
The roles are catnip for actors, and students of drama might enjoy watching this pretentious muddle. But for the ordinary viewer, you want to take a shower afterwards. Thereâ(TM)s nothing elevating or illuminating, but only the depressing ordeal of DeNiroâ(TM)s character being dragged down to the level of Nortonâ(TM)s.
