Review of Stomp the Yard (2007) by Gustavmarkovic31 . — 11 Sep 2012
Before I go into detail, I have to say this movie exceeded my expectations greatly.
Blending R'n'B music fusion with street/professional break-dance, Stomp the Yard is effective in its casting and directional achievements. Although a bit fast paced, the emotion still holds, even though it never seems sure whether it wants to centre the movie about the forbidden romance between DJ and April or his struggle to survive in the harsh world of college breakdance competitions.
Besides an overuse of slow-motion dance and facial expression, Stomp the Yard was an interesting viewing, mainly because of the surprisingly good actors and extremely talented dancers, bringing together an entertaining, nice (and hugely predictable) ending.
Special mention goes to Columbus Short, who saves this picture from becoming horribly familiar with his brilliant acting ability.
Nice and sometimes good fun, but overlong.
