Review of Stolen (2012) by Asrul Ash O — 11 Jan 2013
I read the jabber about Cage stealing this movie from Neeson. Taken, Stolen, I get it. But I have to say that I really don't think it was stolen so to speak. What it is, I think, is a testament to the power of 'the concept'. The concept in both cases is; A man who loves his not so pretty daughter goes on a rampage when that daughter is kidnapped (taken or stolen) and needs to use his unique set of skills to get her back. You can go in all directions with such a simple concept. In the case of Taken the main character is some sort of secret agent going up against a gang of East Europeans, in Stolen a former criminal goes up against his former partner in crime. The execution of Stolen is pretty decent, it's basically a B-movie, but a good one at that. There are some solid action scenes, humour of sorts and the acting is... well, it's Cage. Taken was better for sure, but Stolen is worth a look. Also I feel that this movie was shot in New Orleans to promote their business after the hurricane which is nice.
PS: Wilhem scream at about 1.00.
