Review of Stolen (2012) by Ana B — 21 Dec 2013
Thriller starring Nicholas Cage as Will Montgomery, a notorious bank robber that is caught red handed and sent to jail for a few years. After his release he tries to rekindle the relationship with his estranged daughter now a teenager with parental issues. What he doesn't know is that his old crime partner Vincent is convinced that he kept the proceeds of his last robbery somewhere and to get his share he is going to hold Alison to ransom. Will has to find the money in 12 hours or his daughter will be killed. What comes next is Will' race against time and circumstances.
It is a conventional thriller full of speed fights, shootings, close pursuits and narrow escapes, exactly what you would expect of the genre. And while it isn't boring, it doesn't set my heart on fire neither. There isn't anything new or special about it. It does what it says in the tin. It has correct performances and direction and a stereotyped script but is easily watchable and forgettable.
