Review of Stoker (2013) by Cynthia V — 30 Jul 2013
This film is not quite Park Chan Wook's finest hour (and a half) but there are some lovely transitions, moments of suspense and good use of framing here. Unfortunately, the film leans heavily on some of the plotting from Hitchcock's Shadow of a Doubt whilst crossing genres into the psychological thriller/horror without always succeeding in being as interesting as it thought it was.
Still, the lingering looks and languid camera pauses does well to broker a feeling of something not being quite right.
