Review of Stoker (2013) by Gotham T — 31 Jul 2013
The gem of this movie lies in its austerity. The despondent nature of each interrelationship casts light upon the emotional turmoil boiling within each character. I was shocked at how clipped the dialogue was but how this allowed for powerful and effective delivery.
I was distracted many a time by the design of the house and how, despite the dark themes within the movie, the color contrasts used within the sets were striking and enjoyable. Although the content of this movie is, largely, disturbing and unsettling the seduction of the plot twists and character dynamics are undeniable.
The audience, much like the apathetic India, finds themselves stoked by their innermost desire...
