Review of Stoker (2013) by Luke E — 08 Oct 2013
This is the first English language film from Korean Auteur; Park Chan-Wook, whose films I've praised to be among the finest of last decade. If you familiar with his film then its easy to say this Gothic Thriller focuses on themes the director ha explored before.
He just loves the bitter and darker side of humanity that intrigues and compels us viewers. 'Stoker' takes an archetypal Hitchcockian like plot into a rich and lavish american setting, stocked up with incredible editing and solid performances from a flawless cast playing such concerning and determined characters.
Stoker is also a horror within itself of one character's motivations not exactly being what they appear to be, although it fascinating psychology that just brings humanity's darker side out of the shadows.
This I recommend, being and incredibly fine if not superb effort of modern film-making.
