Review of Stoker (2013) by Adrian Z — 09 Nov 2013
A film that constantly tries to intrigue and have the audience second guessing, and yet, nothing in it comes really as a surprise - every twist was telegraphed well in advance. This type of thriller has been made for a while now and are actually a dime a dozen in the straight to video scene, so all that "Oldboy" Chan Wook Park has done is given it a pretentiously overbearing arthouse style and a relentlessly moody (mono)tone, exacerbated by having a capable cast being told to deliver their lines slowly as they shuffle about.
Dull, but for what it's worth, Wasikowska and Goode do do creepy well.
