Part art house drama, part gothic horror film, Stoker is definitely one of the more disturbing films of 2013, although I must say I was hooked for pretty much the entire second half of this film. The plot is slow to develop - the beginning slogs along - but once we see Matthew Goode in action, things quickly take shape and become more interesting.

The cast is definitely strong throughout, with Mia Wasikowska's turn as India one of the best parts of the film (even if the character does feel a little underdeveloped). Goode and Kidman lend their talents to make up a solid supporting cast.

But I think this movie will be remembered for its dark tones and themes rather than its disturbing plot line - images, and not happy ones, linger in the mind well after the viewing. It's one of the better movies to have been released in 2013, although certainly far from being one of the best - but if you're in the mood for a dark, twisted drama, Stoker may be for you.
