Review of Stoker (2013) by Ruby H — 31 May 2014
This lacks the blood and shocks found in Oldboy and Sympathy For Mr. Vengeance. It's a more subtle attempt at horror but it's not very well written. The script simply stalls somewhere along the way and can't carry the whole film through.
Casting is way off the mark too with Nicole Kidman looking like the only professional on board. It'd be nice if she did more thrillers. But despite its shortcomings the movie is a success simply because it's stunning to look at.
Eerie and super stylish and very inventive camera work. Beautiful colors. Sound is awesome too. I can't believe they chose that poster to promote this film.
