Review of Stoker (2013) by Twins S — 03 Jun 2014
'Stoker' is the first American production and English spoken film for the acclaimed duo Chan wook park(director) and Chung Chung Hoon ( cinematographer) the guys who made Old Boy (the original).
On this premises you might think the movie is going to be a flop since it's their first transition from Korean to American ground.
However 'Stoker' was very well made retaining many of the elements that made Chan Wook Park and Chung Chung Hoon acclaimed filmmakers.
Beauty, controversy, style, art, subtle perversion.
The story is the coming of age of a young girl, focusing on the loss of innocence. That enough said, really we don't want to spoil the many twists and the quite unsettling fascinating aspects of the Film.
The action is kept minimal, the gore trademark of Chan Wook Park is missing, but your brain is hooked into the quirky Stoker family and driven by the beautiful cinematography.
