Hypnotic. Stylized, morbid, Hitchcockian (very similar to Shadow Of A Doubt). A dark coming of age story that, for India, include her sexual and violence awakening. The style of the movie suggests to me that we see the events through India's unique perspective which gives the movie a sort of fantastical feel.
The cinematography is wonderful and leaves its images stuck in your brain. The scene between India and Charlie at the piano will probably stand as one of my all-time favorite movie scenes. Wow! The chemistry and tension between India and Charlie is both wonderful and unsettling.
Mia does such a good job. And Matthew Goode is deliciously sinister and sexy. The last scene of the movie is a bit hard for me to understand. I get it thematically and in that respect it's perfect.
Logically though I can't quite understand why India (spoilers) killed the Sheriff. I don't think her or Charlie were very logical. She seems even less so than him given that she left a huge trail of dried blood at her house and killed a sheriff in broad daylight.
Maybe that's the point. India and Charlie's nature leads them to act out of some dark passion rather than logic. It's clear they're both "insane". Maybe it's bad writing or maybe I was just over thinking it.
However you interpret it, it's a fascinating film to experience.
