Review of Stoker (2013) by Tiffany N — 11 Jul 2014
A grieving daughter India Stoker is dangerously drawn to her charming young uncle Charlie who comes to stay at the family home after the death of her father. For India this is her story about her coming of age but with a sinister turn.
A psychologically teasing film that plays beautifully with every scene shot meticulously and every sound vividly purposeful. Whilst the film seems to show everything all at once, the sequence of scenes feels out of order and it isn't until the last few moments of the film that the pieces fall into place.
The plot is a slow-burner but the ending's intention was enough to please me. Just a warning there are strong themes of sexualised violence so best prepare yourself for some disturbing scenes.
