Review of Stoker (2013) by Guido M — 16 Nov 2014
A little disappointing to me from my favorite director. The only way I try to cope with the movie is by rationalizing that this is the first movie he's directed that he didn't also write. It's not even a good movie when compared to contemporary films, it's just really daring to have an incestual female killer.
The movie has a lot of subtlety in it that I missed way to often for me to appreciate. For example look at what they're talking about and where they're positioned on the staircase when they talk to one another.
It's often symbolic of what is going on with where each character is at internally. But that was completely lost on me during my first viewing. Overall I'm happy to support the movie it's just that I expected something much better.
