Yes, this film got lost in the "Sixth Sense" frenzy that occurred around the same time it came out. Yes there are some similarities, but I find the story/characters/acting to be much better in Echoes.
It is perfectly creepy and stays away from the "horror" crossover line by relying on the characters, acting and story- which are more than enough.
