Review of Stir of Echoes (1999) by Will D — 12 Aug 2009
This one has an original idea: hypnosis as a source of horror. Stir of Echoes is on the right lines: it possesses plenty of strangeness, is reasonably scary and well-acted. Zachary David Cope manages to avoid all 'scary child' cliches by being cheerful - and still he's disturbing. I think his character Jake is the most interesting feature of the film.
The plot itself however is not perfect, it uses all the usual horror tendencies. I see it as a mixture of Carrie, The 'burbs and Flatliners.
