Review of Stir Crazy (1980) by Steve Allister F — 17 Oct 2007
This movie is hilarious. It stars the classic comedy team: Gene Wilder and Richard Pryor. 'Skip Donahue' and 'Harry Monroe' are best friends living in New York City, and they are going no where in terms of jobs.
They want to writers and playwrites, but nothing is breaking for them. So Skip decides the best place for them is Hollywood, so they pack their bags and head out west. They get stopped in Texas though, when their van breaks down, and they have to look for work to pay for the repairs.
They end up landing a song and dance act in a local bank, but then two hoodlums up to no good, steal their costumes, come in pretending to be them, and then preceed to stage a robbery. Well Skip and Harry end up being arrested for the crime, and then it's a hilarious ride in the state penitentiary.
During their time, they and some friends, decide to set up a jailbreak. And it works. But by the time they get out, the police have caught the real robbers and Skip and Harry are Free As Birds!
