Review of Still Crazy (1998) by Gemini F — 12 Apr 2010
A band of aging rockers go on tour to reclaim the fame they lost two decades earlier, in a haze of drugs and petty quarrels.
Followed by the IRS(or is it really?),a crazy wife, and with just about no money, they're stuck together,on a band tour across Holland. They have to play in the dirtiest and most inhospitable locales, cause that's the only venues available to them now. Soon the old quarrels begins to dominate the scene again, amid hostile audiences, and the diva of a lead vocalist starting up with drugs again.
The standout turn from Bill Nighy in this movie as the nervous wreck of a former star singer,is the best thing about this movie.Still Crazy made him my favorite comedic actor, no matter what crap movies he's done since (underworld:Rise of the lycans for example).
Though the movie might sound a bit depressing,I promise you it's not. I enjoyed it immensely, and I think it has some good and relevant insights into what it means to do a comeback after long time on the sidelines.Especially since there seems to be a whole wave of comebacks from former stars in the music business nowadays.
