Review of Still Alice (2014) by Tony L — 04 Jun 2015
Julianne Moore is easily one of the best actresses of this generation. If her turns in "Boogie Nights", "Short Cuts", "The Hand That Rocks the Cradle", even 2013's remake of "Carrie" didn't prove to be for the win, "Still Alice" is every indication that she's long overdue for an Oscar.
Not only does Richard Glatzer and Wash Westmoreland's meditation on a woman's journey into Alzheimer's prove to be sweet, even humorous, but it's also devastatingly real. The cast helps tremendously in that category, particularly Alec Baldwin and a surprising Kristen Stewart.
But the movie belongs to Moore through and through in a performance that simmers with subtlety and nuance. We care about Alice, and Moore was the perfect choice for the role. Get your hankies ready. "Still Alice" will surely make you cry.
