Review of Steve Jobs (2015) by Omar L — 26 Dec 2015
Like "The Social Network" before, "Steve Jobs" is not about the product(s) that have changed our lives, but of the harsh personalities of the men behind them. This movie reminds us that Apple was, in fact, a financial failure of a company in its first twenty years because the dream that Jobs had to make computers available for everyone was not fiscally feasible at the prices that those products were offered. To love Apple was to love a brand, not a system, and the most devout of Apple devotees were sycophants to Jobs' brilliant marketing strategy.
"Steve Jobs" reveals that the man himself, or rather his persona, was a product, a product that he himself created. Like the Apple products, over time, Jobs grew to become more flexible; even though the products themselves are notoriously closed, they are no longer incompatible with the rest of the world. This movie is about the hard journey it took for the man behind those products to start to become more open and accepting.
