Review of Steve Jobs (2015) by Josiah M — 02 Jan 2016
What a great portrait of a movie. Amazing cast, and powerful directing really launch this above and beyond your average biopic. I always feel iffy about going into films about real people from the last 50 years because half of the time I get more enjoyment and understanding of that person by just reading the news.
This movie, however, doesn't try to tell you every detail of Steve Jobs life or pretend that he was deserving of worship for his accomplishments. Instead, it just shows you a pressure cooker of the man at four intense moments of his life.
It's not a snap shot, it's not trying to portray ever detail or list the facts- instead, it's a painted portrait. Not every line, color or flaw needs to be there in order for you to see him as he was.
It's a thoughtful and intense and beautiful portrait of a stubborn, flawed, and intelligent person who was damaged in all of the right ways that he knew how to keep trying until he was able to rise above.
There's no attempt at answering every question, it's just a skillfully drawn portrayal of a human being.
