Review of Steve Jobs (2015) by Joshua M — 17 Feb 2016
"It's not quite the most satisfying movie of the year, but it is definitely worth your time to view it at least once. Though Aaron Sorkin's script for "The Social Network" (2010) towers over the one for this film, I felt that he had a better handle on Steve Jobs than Marc Zuckerberg and created a fully-defined character a lot better here (of course, Michael Fassbender's performance also takes the credit here).
All of the performances across the board are well-done, though I thought Kate Winslet should have been given more to do than what her role allows for; however, she ultimately makes the best of wha is given and is excellent.
What got me the most invested in this film was the way Fassbender's Jobs was portrayed, as a different man than the one the world saw during major promotions for Apple, and how that persona that we knew seemed to be more "mechanized" than coming organically from the man himself.
I did think that the end was a misstep and put things too neatly in wrapping up the tale. I also thought the film should have been structured a little differently, without having every major life event or crisis in Jobs' life converge right before his product launches, even with artistic license and all that considered (the character even brings this up himself in the flick, saying near the end that 'It's like five minutes before every launch, everyone goes to the bar and gets drunk and tells me what they really think.
...').".
