Review of Stephanie Daley (2007) by Savannah R — 17 Sep 2007
When does a fetus become a child? Is a stillborn baby medical waste? If a 16 year old gives birth to a child she didn't even know she was carrying is it her responsibility to get it immediate medical attention? The film "Stephanie Daley" contemplates these questions and is acutely aware that there are no simple answers.
Tilda Swinton and Amber Tamblyn are both stellar here as mothers who struggle with the obligations involved when carrying a child. The film is especially perceptive when it gets inside the head of the title character and her rationals for her behaviour.
