Review of Step Up 2: The Streets (2008) by Nikolai E — 05 Aug 2010
No really, this is actually a fantastic film that captializes on every ounce of potential that the first one squandered. The story is a basic, by-the-numbers foundation that does nothing new but doesn't overreach itself either, and it's completely effective as a way to string together a ton of amazing dance scenes, performed by an impressively talented and diverse cast.
I dare you not to be impressed by the last 20 minutes, culminating in a stratospheric climax of choreography and music that just keeps giving and giving. This could be a viable sub-genre rather than the subject of derision if everyone would just stop lampooning it long enough to be taken in.
