Review of Step Up 2: The Streets (2008) by Rapunzel R — 16 Dec 2010
Step Up 2 was definitley a stunner! The overall quality was superb. I loved the choreography, it was tougher, faster, sexier, and everything that wasn't in the prequel. It actually took me quite a while to realize that Andie (Briana Evigan) was Tyler's foster sister, the one he danced with in the backyard in Step Up. She's all grown up now and pretty hot. Seems like stories like this always has a little romance waiting to blossom, so yes, there is a boy who seems to be smitten with our lead.
To give meaning to the title Step Up 2: The Streets, he gives her a helping hand in forming a crew. The movie gives back to the streets where street dancing originated. The whole ghetto, hip hop, freestyling gig where most dance crews started. Compared to Step Up, the plot wasn't cliched to make every other normal person like it. Detailed? It's more of a Need for Speed Underground kinda thing. You dance, I dance, she dances, he dances, we form a crew, and we go battle it out with the other crews... underground streets, that is. Aside from that, the film isn't the shallow kind. It teaches us a thing or two about family, friends and passion. Are you ready to Step it up? ^_^.
Chace Collins (Robert Hoffman), the male lead was obviously better than Tyler Gage (Channing Tatum) in terms of skill but he's no match for Tatum's charm.
The Jabbawockeez do a cameo in this movie which was actually deleted in some copies. (Good thing I got the unedited version.).
