Review of Step Up 2: The Streets (2008) by Chanelle P — 12 Sep 2009
As a fan of dance flicks, Step Up 2 was rather appaling. I was plesantly surprised by the first one, and this sequel reaffirms the fact that sequels tent to crash and burn.
The movie tells the (quintessential) story of a i-know-i'm-talented dancer who's down on her luck and is hounded by family problems. She is given the opportunity to study in a dance school where she meets new friends. Of course, she then has to choose between her street friends and her new (and also very talented dancer) friends.
Basically, the first 1hr 20 mins of the movie tries to explain how she ended up where she was and how she struggles with her decisions.
Frankly, the only redeeming part of the movie is in the last 10mins of the film. The dance-off was done exceptionally well with new and unique dances showcased. However, it still was not able to wash off the bad taste of cliche and corny scripts writing.
