Review of Step Brothers (2008) by Adam G — 30 Dec 2012
Why would anyone take this seriously? It's masterful contemporary absurdity. I rarely laugh this hard. You could read it as commentary as well, if you were so inclined. The only downside is a stretch in the middle of the movie that's not quite as funny as its bookends. Continues the fine precedent set by Talladega Nights, but smartly moves into R territory.
With that out of the way, my ten favorite movies I saw in 2012 for the first time, not excluded to theatrical releases, and in no particular order:
Looper, The Godfather Parts I & II, 12 Monkeys, The Ghost Writer, Seven Psychopaths, It's Complicated, Blow Out, Platoon, Taken, Do the Right Thing.
