Review of Steel Magnolias (2012) by Willie M — 15 Aug 2009
This movie is truly a chick flick. I think all wedding movies are. This one stars 6 count-me 6 women on the cover of the DVD. They are all marquee names and all of them are wonderful. Sally Field though steels the spotlight. She was Golden Globe Nominated for her performance by the way.
Julia Roberts wasn't too bad either. She was Oscar nominated in only her second major role (Mystic Pizza was 1st.) Ms. Field was better. She was strong, dedicated, and amazing. The music was wonderful as well. It opened on the same note it started. (Or at least the same song.).
This is the girl?s version of Ghostbusters. It was a comedy with many great lines and a complete storyline along the way to boot. While ?I?d rather walk on my lips that criticize someone? this movie was not perfect. It started off a little slow and was not remotely appealing to a lonely bachelor like myself. (until after the wedding.) While I realize I am not it?s intended demographic a few more guys other that Tom Skerritt and Dylan McDermott would not hurt either.
Nevertheless I?d recommend this movie to my female friend. I?d keep silent about to my male friends. Men they may think I?m gay or a little odd for doing watching this film.
Grade B-.
