Steel Magnolias is set in a small town beauty shop in New Orleans and spans several years in the lives of the owner and her customers. The film features 6 leading female characters. Julia Roberts portrays the young girl with medical problems who marries and has a child which leads to a tragic ending.
Sally Field portrays her mother who has to keep strong in dealing with her daughter's problems. Dolly Parton portrays the owner of the beauty shop. She has an unhappy unemployed husband and a troubled son.
Daryl Hannah portrays her new assistant who's running away from a bad marriage. She turns to religion to comfort her and finds a good man. Shirley MacLaine portrays the grouchy neighbor who is never happy and Olympia Dukakis portrays her wise cracking friend.
They all support each other through good times and bad. This is a great film both touching and funny. All of the actors are great with a great story.
