Review of Steamboy (2004) by Heidi P — 14 Apr 2005
The animation in Steamboy is wonderful. Very detailed machinery and well depicted steam engineering. Truly a fine example of steampunk. I enjoyed it although the story was a slow moving, preachy and predictable.
(Science should be used for good and not evil.) I had a hard time being empathetic to Miss Scarlett and the character development of young Ray Steam (Steamboy) was non existent. I loved hearing Patrick Stewart voice the grandfather in the story.
Stay for the credits as the scenes in the background depict what happens to the characters in the "future". I would recommend seeing this movie on the big screen for the animation but I would also recommend seeing it during a matinee or as a second run as it's not worth full price of an evening ticket.
