Review of Steamboy (2004) by Steve R — 14 Jul 2006
I probably would have cried at the end of this movie if I didn't have a beer in me. Its not that its moving, its that its terribly disappointing. Great animation and some promising ideas that are caught up in what evolves to become almost incomprehensible as to what is going on because theres so MUCH going on at once.
Half of this movie is wasted on dialogue or action involving turning wheels for pipes or the like and 'trust me, I'm the good guy' type moments. In addition to this, the finalé just goes ON and ON; don't worry though, there's plenty of wheel-turning and steaming pipes.
One of the terrible anime tragedies along with 'Howl's Moving Castle'.
