Review of Staying Alive (1983) by Jake M — 15 Apr 2006
I loved Saturday Night Fever. It had great music, a dark tone and a unique lead character. In Saturday Night Fever, Tony is racist, obnoxious, sexist and cocky. This unique lead character was one of the best parts of the film.
Staying Alive loses everything that was good about the first film. The music is no where near as good as the original, Tony doesn't really have any of his defining qualities like in the first film, and the dances and dialouge are pretty bad.
John Travolta looked like he put an honest effort into the film but I can imagine how hard it is to work with an abysmal script.
