Review of Stay (2005) by Frank E — 31 Jul 2010
It's hard to say why this is so terrible without getting into spoiler territory but I'll try. This movie is a collection of â??psychological thrillerâ?? cliches with newer technology. We have seen this plot many times before, though I haven't seen it from this angle.
So many of these scenes are from other movies. When MacGregor is in the book store yelling at the clerk I almost had to turn off the film it was so bad. It's self-parody (of the film, not MacGregor).
It's like clockwork. All the cliches are made worse by the reveal, which is an oft used reveal from other movies in this sub-genre, only backwards. And because it's backwards it makes no sense (that is to say, even less sense than it did in other films).
Once you get that far, you realize this movie doesn't make any sense. It's just a badly told bad story dressed up with some fancy cameras and fancy (and not-so-fancy) CGI.
