Review of Stay (2005) by Gerardine T — 16 Jul 2008
SPOILER-FILLED so don't read this if you haven't already watched it.
First off I think this movie has the kind of ending that slaps you in the face because it goes nyeh nyeh what you have been watching for the past 1.5 hrs is merely part of a person's dream.
Then again the beauty in this movie is that the director correctly depicts what happens when a person is about to die. The saying "i watched as my whole life flashed before my eyes" couldn't be more cliche, as it is true that Henry kept having flashbacks. It also makes more sense now why the scene at the Brooklyn Bridge is more wavy and out of focus-he is hallucinating and slipping away from reality as he is about to die.
Overall I'm having mixed feelings about this film. The psychological suspense that kept building up throughout this film only made me wait for a big boom to tie it up nicely at the end.
